Smart compaction technology coming to market

The Smart Doc system shows in real-time how compaction develops, and links the machine data to GNSS position data. The app uses this data to create compaction reports in PDF format and is suitable for self-monitoring.

The Smart Compact compaction assistant meanwhile can further raise the quality of the compaction. It can integrate local weather data into the evaluation, while also evaluating the physical and cooling properties of the asphalt.

This allows it to determine the optimal setting for each drum separately, selecting whether compaction should be carried out with vibration, with big or small amplitude, as well as having the options of oscillation or static compaction. The driver only enters which layer is to be compacted and the system can also put the roller into ECO mode and save fuel.

Kleemann’s sophisticated new control system

This sophisticated tool incorporates a touchscreen and radio remote controls and supports work site digitalisation. All relevant process information and reporting can be displayed on the user’s smartphone without having to leave the feeding device. SPECTIVE CONNECT also offers new features, which will make work for the operator easier according to the firm. One of the key features is a new configuration tool  that helps the operator select the correct machine settings for each application.

Doosan enters 10-tonne class with the DX100W-7

The 10-tonne weight class is new to the Doosan range and the DX100W-7 offers a high performance for urban and road maintenance applications. The integral 1.35-tonne counterweight ensures the highest stability for lifting work in combination with the articulated boom and long arm. The boom ensures that the operator can position the machine as close as possible to trucks during loading.

In addition, the DX100W-7 offers maximised lifting capacities and digging forces, as well as satisfying a requirement in some countries for a wheeled excavator with a travelling height of under 4m.

Other safety features include a ROPS cab with a premium seat as standard. An operator can use the large touch screen to easily browse all machine settings, including the view from the standard side and rear view cameras. The availability on the DX100W-7 of an optional 360° all-around view camera, linked with an optional ultrasonic detection system is another exclusive for a machine of this size, says Doosan.

With 75kW of power at 2000 RPM provided by a Doosan D34 G2 Stage V engine, the DX100W-7 has the highest engine power, hydraulic flow and traction force in this class. The high flow from the smooth and precise hydraulic system can drive all kinds of attachments. In addition, there are two different pumps providing independent hydraulic flow for the transmission and to fully power hydraulic tools on the front end.

Versatile tracked carriers available from Bell Equipment

Both machines are powered by 6.7litre Cummins diesels rated at 168kW for the TC7A and 186kW for the TC11A and have hydrostatic drives, featuring proven hydraulic components from Rexroth. The firm says that the operators benefit from larger and more comfortable ROPS/FOPS cabs with better all round visibility than competing machines.

The machines are said to good offer good traction even in the worst conditions and can cope with 50% slopes. The suspension systems feature walking beams and six rollers, a configuration said to ensure a combination of high traction and smooth running. The smaller machine has a dump area of 3.5m3 while the larger unit has a dump area of 5.25m3. Fold down sides for the rear area also allow the machines to be used for carrying equipment for projects on remote sites. The machines can also be equipped with access equipment, loader cranes or compact concrete mixer units for example.

No two conveying systems are alike, even if the primary task of transporting bulk material from A to B appears comparable. The components and the system must be adapted to the material being conveyed. The mass flow to be conveyed and height differences that need to be overcome over the length of the conveyor line are important factors that must be addressed when designing a system.

The right layout is all-important and the BEUMER Overland Layouting Tool is central for ascertaining the ideal layout for the system at an early stage of the project and designing the ideal conveying solution together with the customer.

It generates a digital 3D model of the conveyor in the virtual landscape during project planning, more or less automatically, according to the company. The critical topography data can either be provided by customers or drones that capture terrain data. These 3D visualisations are also ideal for supporting mining companies in their public relations work.

Important factors such as cut-and-fill volumes - the necessary excavation work - and the required steel structures for the conveyor can be evaluated and illustrated on this basis. This procedure considerably accelerates the project planning process and enables BEUMER to provide project-critical data to the customer at an early stage of the project.

Topography has a significant influence on the design of the conveying system. An in-depth analysis of various dynamic load cases and a thorough investigation of the technically feasible horizontal and vertical curve radii must be conducted to design the system in the most efficient and environmentally friendly way. This is especially true for longer and more difficult conveyor lines. Potential obstacles that must be considered during the planning phase include residential areas, roads and rivers.

Today, BEUMER can design curved overland conveyors of up to 20km or longer without the need for a transfer tower. The conveying capacities of a system like this are more than 20,000 tonnes per hour.

Slotting into the range between the existing R 926 and R 930, the R 928 weighs under 30tonnes and this makes it easier to transport. Meanwhile, the sophisticated, semi-automatic machine control package is said to ensure precise and productive operation, without the need for reworking. Factory-installed 2D and 3D machine controls will be available in future for Liebherr’s Generation 6 and 8 Liebherr crawler and wheeled excavators as optional equipment.

Durability marks out Hidromek’s 500 LCHD excavator

Improvements have been made in arm and boom structure, undercarriage and attachment groups by using more durable materials for the H4 Series. The 500 LCHD has a more durable structure and offers high performance and long-life that are essential for long hours on duty in marble quarries, mines and large construction sites.

The 52,000kg 500 LCHD  with its Pentagon-type chassis is powered by a stage V-EU certified ISUZU-6UZ1X engine producing 270kW at 2000 rpm. Travel is fully hydrsostatic.

The hydraulic system incorporates double variable displacement axial piston pumps with a maximum flow rate of 2 x 376  litres per min.

The Cat D4 dozer pushes the limit

Cat Grade with Slope Assist automatically maintains pre-established blade position without a GPS signal, so no additional hardware or software is needed. Factory integrated Cat Grade with 3D uses GPS to control the blade so you can get to design plan faster and it has no blade masts. Doosan’s DX1000LC-7 100 tonne crawler is largest ever

The Stage V compliant DX1000LC-7 also has the highest hydraulic flow for this size of machine, providing best-in-class performance, with higher productivity, lower fuel consumption and smoother controls. For the operator, there is a spacious cab where noise is reduced through enhanced sealing of the engine compartment and extensive use of sound-dampening materials.

The DX1000LC-7 excavator is powered by the new stage V version of the well-proven Perkins 2806J diesel engine, providing a high power output of 469kW, more than any other machine in this class. The engine meets Stage V emission regulations thanks to exhaust gas recirculation, selective catalyst reduction, diesel oxidation catalyst and diesel particulate filter (DPF) after-treatment technologies.

The DPF automatically regenerates every 25 hours and the excavator continues to work unaffected during this regeneration phase. The operator can check the status of the DPF via the display on the gauge panel in the cab.

The high output of the engine is combined with a Virtual Bleed Off (VBO) hydraulic system (D-ECOPOWER+) and controlled by electric manipulator (FEH). This provides a best-in-class hydraulic flow of 1569 l/min and a high system pressure of 360 bar, together contributing to the best performance in the 100-tonne market.

Doosan’s D-ECOPOWER+ FEH technology uses an electronic pressure-controlled pump within a closed centre hydraulic system to optimise productivity and fuel consumption, depending on the mode selected. A closed centered main control valve minimises pressure loss, while the electric pressure-controlled pump manages and optimises engine power more effectively.

Komatsu’s PC4000-11 e-drive excavator

Komatsu's new PC4000-11e features easy access and maintenance. A new 45° access system means entry is safer for the operator. The machine is equipped with three emergency exits on two sides and one emergency exit hatch from the machinery house to the roof. Located on the cab side as well as the opposite side on the machinery house, a stable ladder is mounted in two pieces as a flip down, this also has an anti-slip surface to ensure safe egress.
 
Meanwhile, KOMTRAX Plus monitors all data for quick and efficient handling directly in the operator’s cabin. As well as this, a new simplified electrical system is now standard. Komatsu controllers reduce nodes and provides redundancy in the electric system for more efficiency in the mine.

Special features include KomVision and payload management. KomVision offers a 360° bird’s eye view for safer machine operation. A monitor in the operator’s cabin shows the full view of the machine and its surroundings. The operator is additionally able to select one of the cameras for a detailed view of a required area by way of a 10-inch touch panel.

Argus PLM identifies the bucket payload. With the operator able to see the bucket fill, the number of required passes per truck can be reduced which means a more efficient and quicker truck loading. In the future the system will be standard, it is currently available as an option as Argus ready, as an integrated system.

Compact articulated truck from Bell

The same six cylinder Mercedes diesel rated at 260kW that meets Stage V/Tier 4 Final emissions requirements is fitted to the special narrow variant as to the standard machine and this also drives through the same six speed Allison transmission. The payload also remains at the same at 28tonnes, though the dumpbody is revised to keep it within the 3m width limits. The machine offers a top speed of 50km/h and is equipped with an automatic retarded, while the dumpbody retains its heating kit to ensure efficient tipping with sticky materials.

The machine has been developed to meet the needs of those earthmoving contractors or quarry firms that sometimes have to move machines on road.
