France: heavy earthmoving sales continue rise
France’s heavy earthmoving equipment market grew around 7% in the first eight months of 2019, according to Evolis, the construction equipment sector’s umbrella body.
Sales for compact earthmoving equipment were not far behind, posting a 5% increase.

Poland to get more EU funds for the S1 Expressway
Poland has secured nearly €325 million from the European Union for construction of the S1 expressway between the junctions of Przybedz Milowka.
The deal was signed with the regional government of the Silesia voivodeship.

New Genoa bridge project underway
Work is continuing in the Italian city of Genoa on the massive bridge replacement project. The 50m sections of the new bridge deck are now being raised into place using heavy lifting cranes. The deck sections weigh around 500tonnes apiece and measure 50m long, with 18 of these components being required in all. The bridge replacement work is necessary following the horrific collapse of the old Morandi Bridge during 2018, which involved multiple fatalities. Standard for electric roads
A proposal for a European standard covering electric roads has been put forward by SEK Svensk Elstandard, the Swedish organisation for standardisation of the electricity sector. This would include technology for transmitting electrical power to vehicles while they are in motion.

Norwegian bridge faces questions
The cost of the planned bridge connecting Sotra Island to mainland Norway may be considerably higher than originally anticipated. The project could cost as much as €1.78 billion to carry out, which includes building the necessary road links and tunnel sections. Work for Peru’s Anillo Vial Periferico ring road project is underway at present. The project is costing an estimated US$2.4 billion. Meanwhile a loan worth US$350 million has been agreed for the Pativilca-Trujillo toll road project. This will be used to finance additional construction works for the project. Interest is said to be strong for the project to build the Mjøsa bridge and E6 route connecting Moelv with Roterud in Norway. The project includes building a bridge spanning Lake Mjøsa as well as a 9.4km stretch of road. Five consortia have prequalified for the bidding process. The project is worth €262 million and Norway’s state-owned road business Nye Veier is expected to award the contract in the second quarter of 2020, with planned to commence in the first quarter of 2021.
Philippines toll road deal reached
The first three stretches of the Cavite-Laguna Expressway in the Philippines should be open to traffic by the end of October 2019. Around 10,000 vehicles/day are expected to use the three stretches when they open. The 45km route is costing US$653.4 million to develop. When it is fully commissioned in the second quarter of 2022, will cut journey times between CAVITEx and SLEx to 45 minutes, compared with 150 minutes that it has taken to travel previously. Antwerp road rebuilding work underway
Major road rebuilding work is being carried out in the Belgian city of Antwerp. The project is for the Antwerp Oosterweel Link and the aim of the work is to reduce traffic congestion and improve journey times. The project is costing €4.3 billion in all.
