Resurfacing work on the 72km road connecting Soa with Esse and Awae in Cameroon has been subject to lengthy delays.
Concerns over the sluggish rate of progress with the work are prompting the country’s government to revisit the contract, which was awarded to a Nigerian firm. Although work started to provide a new asphalt surface for the route commenced in October 2016, just 21% of the work on the route has so far been completed. Resurfacing this road section was originally expected to take 24 months to complete. The contractor, Atidolf Nigeria, has so far been paid US$21.1 million of the total $63.3 million for the work and has explained that its progress has been hampered by instability in the north west and south west of Cameroon.
