Cost-effective machine control from Trimble
Trimble has developed a cost-effective machine control package aimed at use by firms looking to use this technology, without spending heavily. This system uses the firm’s BX992 receiver and is designed to be used with excavators only.
The BX992 receiver can be fitted to the machine and costs considerably less than other systems on the market. As the unit is fixed to the excavator it is for use with that unit only.

Sunward enters European piling market with proven model
Sunward is now offering its SWDM80SW piling rig for the European market. Although well proven in Sunward’s Chinese home market, the machines have not been available in Europe until now. This 27tonne machine features an 8m high boom and is powered by a Stage 5/Tier 4 Final emissions compliant engine.
The firm says that it sees potential for its piling rigs in Europe as the machines offer performance durability. An array of options is available to suit the needs of different applications.
Less pick wear with Wirtgen's W220 XFi cold milling machine
Wirtgen’s new W 220 XFi cold milling machine has been designed to work across as many applications as possile, “from surface layer rehabilitation to complete asphalt removal,” says the German manufacturer.
“Specific carbon emissions are low and milling performance is high plus, in automatic mode, Mill Assist selects the operating strategy with the most favourable balance between milling performance and operating costs.”
E-Mak is supplying asphalt plants to Europe
Turkish firm E-MAK is now supplying its asphalt plants to customers in Europe. The first plant is already commissioned in Bilbao in Spain with a second being delivered shortly to a customer in the UK.
The machine going to the UK is being supplied to a Derby-based firm that has previously concentrated on the concrete precasting and readymix market but is now widening its operations to include supplying asphalt. The firm is buying one of the E-MAK Express batching plants, which will offer a rated capacity of 160tonnes/hour.
Efficient road repairs from Simex
The new ART1000 unit from Simex offers fast and effective road repairs. The unit is suited to use on urban roads and offers a cost-effective solution for repairs and maintenance works.
The Italian firm is best known for its attachments for compact machines and this new unit is designed for use on a high performance skid steer loader with high flow hydraulics but it is rather more sophisticated than a simple milling unit.
Versatile machine control package from Leica Geosystems
Leica Geosystems is widening its array of 3D machine control solutions with the introduction of its Leica iCON gps 120. This smart antenna offers customers a versatile machine control solution.
Bucket versatility from IEV
An innovative system from French firm IEV could allow customers to use a wheeled loader to take the place of a grader onsite. The quick attachment system offers 30° of rotation to either left or right for the wheeled loader bucket.
Used in conjunction with machine control technology from Leica Geosystems to adjust bucket angle, the IEV attachment system allows a loader to take the place of a grader for many duties such as haul road maintenance or preparation duties. However, a sideshift feature has not been developed so far.
Engcon’s smart tiltrotator offers extra capabilities
Engcon is widening its range of tiltrotators with a new generation unit featuring improved hydraulics. The self-sensing hydraulic system can determine the volume and flow rates needed to operate a particular attachment and set the levels accordingly, increasing efficiency and productivity, while also reducing fuel consumption for the carrier machine.
Wirtgen’s compact and powerful milling machine
Wirtgen is introducing its W 150 Fi planer, a mid-sized machine that now benefits from technology first seen in the firm’s larger mills. Power comes from a 9litre John Deere diesel delivering 313kW that meets the Tier 4 Final/Stage V emissions requirements.
The machine is designed to cut a 1.5m width to a depth of 330mm, though it can be fitted with different width drums as well as a range of tooth patterns to suit the needs of the customer and the work being carried out.
Power Curbers expanding slipformer range
Power Curbers is expanding its range of concrete slipformers to meet customer demand. President of the company is Stephen Bullock and he explained that the firm is now offering a new version of its successful 5700-D slipformer aimed particularly at customers in Europe.
The existing 5700-D model runs on three tracks but the new 5700-D4 is a four track machine. Bullock said, “This is just to reach that market that wants a four track machine.”
Versatility key for new sunward excavator models
Sunward is introducing an array of versatile new construction machines, with a key launch being for the new SWE155FW wheeled excavator.
This marks a major departure for the Chinese firm, which has previously focussed on selling its compact machines in Europe. At the same time, Sunward is also extending its range of mini excavators with the introduction of the battery electric SWE10FED and SWE60VFED models.
Cummins expands fuel-agnostic engine offering
Cummins is expanding its range of fuel-agnostic engines further with the introduction of its new X15 unit. The firm says that this advanced 15litre engine offers reliability and lower operating costs as well as reduced emissions and improved fuel efficiency.
The engine is part of the CUMMINS HELM platform and offers customers the option to choose the fuel that best suits their needs. The common base can have cylinder heads and fuel systems specifically tailored for a single fuel- advanced diesel, natural gas or hydrogen.
