Construction work is starting on Malaysia’s massive Penang Roads and Tunnels project. Various transactions for land acquisition are being handled. Phase 1 of the project, for a 5.7km bypass, is expected to take three years to carry out. Phase 2 of the project will commence in the third quarter of 2020. This is one of a number of key projects underway in Malaysia at present, in addition to the massive Pan Borneo Highway project.
The project is for a tolled undersea tunnel as well as three link roads. The project is expected to cost US$1.53 billion and it concession package is for a 30 year period. The work is being handled by a consortium, headed by Zenith Construction and also including Vertice and Juteras.
