Shaking all over: controlled frequency vibration for concrete
The use of controlled frequency vibration for concrete continues to grow, writes Paul Jaworski
Controlled frequency vibration (CFV) technology has been around since the mid-1990s for concrete pavement applications. The technology has seen a gradual increase in acceptance, particularly in certain applications.
For the 0- to 37mm (1.5”) slump pavement mix designs, many contractors were experiencing material separation due to speeds over 8,000vibrations/minute (VPM). With the wide variability of concrete
Keestrack enjoying rapid Chinese growth
Keestrack has increased its Chinese unit sales by more than 20% in 2018, leaving the mobile crushing and screening plant manufacturer on course to sell around 60 machines in the calendar year.
Thomas Hagspiel, the company’s China and Southeast Asia managing director, said the Belgian global crushing and screening equipment firm had been delighted with Chinese customers response to Keestrack’s product offer over the past four years. BOMAG’s cleaner milling machine
BOMAG has developed a novel system for reducing dust levels around its milling machines. Called the Ion Dust Shield, this patented system uses ionisation to positively charge dust particles from milled cuttings. The firm says that current dust extraction technology for milling machines focuses on minimising dust levels around the operator. These ensure that the working area is kept free from dust, with this retrieved material then being exhausted to the discharge conveyor, typically at a height of around 5m
It’s a blast! Road Dryer RD-1200XT
Traditional pavement drying typically involves the use of jet engine dryers, infrared heat and portable blowers, combined with brooms and manual squeegees.
Each method has its limitations along with safety concerns. These include the use of jet fuel, noise, melting pavement, danger from thrown rocks or other objects – not mention slow results. Because of this, traffic is often fully restricted from traveling on roads or runways where drying work is taking place.
Soil improvement vs stabilisation: Wirtgen’s WR 250 in the US
Many invitations to tender continue to specify that the soil is to be exchanged. However, soil stabilisation is fast becoming a preferred option when it comes to ensuring the load-bearing capacity and quality of soil in preparation for road construction.
The targeted addition of stabilising agents can help reduce the moisture content of soil, which is vital for roadworks. Compared to exchanging the entire soil, soil stabilisation is an economical and resource-saving method. Cost savings result from simpl
