Danilo Medina, president of the Dominican Republic, says the Cibao-Sur highway connecting the provinces of Santiago and San Juan is a high priority for his administration.

However, Medina says that with the project requiring investments of US$345 million, the works may not start in 2013. In order to reduce the environmental impact of the project, a 4-6km tunnel will be built to cross the central highlands.
