Official approval has been awarded for work on a new bypass around Kemerovo in Siberia. Construction of the Phase I stage of the project involves building a 23km section of road. The plans for Phase II of the project have yet to be analysed fully, while the design is being worked on for Phase III.
The new road will include the construction of four new interchanges plus a new bridge spanning Russia's Tom River. Building the bypass comes with an estimated pricetag of US$570 million. Of this cost, Russia’s Federal Government is expected to contribute 50%, while the remainder will be provided by the local authorities.
