The proposed Carretera Central road project for Peru is facing questions. The project is being planned jointly by the French Government and Peruvian Government. But the plan suggested by the French authorities does not meet the targets set by the Peruvian authorities.

Peru’s Ministry of Transport and Communications has said that France will provide much of the technical assistance required for the project, such as the design work.

The new road link will connect Lima and Junin, costing an estimated US$3.2 billion to build. The work will include widening the existing road, which features a single lane in either direction at present, so that it becomes a dual carriageway with two lanes in either direction.
