Two major new road projects are being planned for El Salvador. One project will see the widening of the important Carretera del Litoral route, while the other will be for improvements to the Los Chorros route.
Widening the Carretera del Litoral road so that it features two links in either direction is expected to cost US$203 million and the work will commence in 2023.
Meanwhile, improving the Los Chorros route is now expected to cost $410 million, a considerable increase from the £269 million originally envisaged. Improvement work is being carried out at present and South Korea is providing around $205-$210 million of the necessary funding, an increase from the $80.5 million planned initially. The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) will provide the remaining $200-$205 million, an increase from the $165.3 million originally intended.
The works will help transport across El Salvador, also assisting with its links to neighbouring countries, Guatemala and Honduras.
