A new Guatemala-El Salvador bridge link is planned.
A new bridge will provide an improved transport connection between Guatemala and El Salvador in Central America. The bridge will span the Paz River. It will be called the General Manuel José Arce binational bridge and while the exact cost has not been yet revealed, it will have a price tag of more than US$30 million.
Construction has now commenced on the new bridge, which is located close to La Hachadura in El Salvador. Much of the funding for the project is being provided by the Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI).
The bridge will carry two lanes in either direction will measure 256m in length. Its construction will improve the connection between the CA-2 highway in Guatemala and the Carratera del Litoral route in El Salvador. The project is expected to boost transport, trade and economic activity between the Central American nations.
