Funding sources are now being secured for Indonesia’s massive Trans Java toll project. A portion of the financing is being delivered by Sarana Multi Infrastuktur, Taspen, and BPJS Ketenagakerjaan. Part of the financing package will also be sourced from pension funds such as BPJS Ketenagakerjaan and Taspen. The project will be carried out by Waskita Toll Road.

The Chinese Province of Guizhou has a plan to construct no less than 32 new highways, with the construction work expected to be complete by 2022. In all the new highways will measure a total length of 2,428km. Work is starting in 2016 on three of the highways, which will total 222km in all. A further 10 highway projects are due to start construction in 2017 and will measure a total of 790km. In 2018 there will be eight new highway projects starting construction and measuring 861km with a further 11 highway

Serbia will cooperate with Albania on construction of the proposed Nis-Merdare-Prishtina motorway, according to media reports. Serbian vice president and Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure, Zorana Mihajlovic, said that the motorway will be part of a larger project to give faster access, through Pristina, capital of Kosovo, to Albania’s Adriatic Sea port of Drac.

Construction of the €356 million Presov motorway bypass should start in the spring, according Arpad Ersek, Slovakia’s minister for transport. However, no contract has been finalised with the winner of the tender, the consortium of Metrostav Slovakia, Metrostav, Doprastav, and Eurovia.

The Polish government said that it will complete the final 80km section of the A1 motorway at a cost of around €830 million. Money will come out of the National Road fund (KFD), according to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Construction. The missing section stretches from Tuszyn to Czestochowa and the government will choose contractors in September 2017. Completion is set for 2020. Analysis into traffic crashes in India has revealed that only around half of the country’s road deaths in 2015/2016 resulted in insurance claims. There were around 146,000 road fatalities in India during this period. The problem has been revealed by India’s Supreme Court. There are suggestions that the families of many of the road death victims do not know that they are entitled to compensation. Rebuilding a local road in southern Germany will provide users with a safer route, particularly in poor weather conditions. Black Forest-based contractor Waltersbacher has used a tracked AFT 500 asphalt paver from Ammann to resurface a local road in the municipality of Glatten, near Baiersbronn. The contractor has used a number of smaller Ammann compaction units in the past. Morocco’s massive infrastructure development programme is continuing. The cost of this project is expected to hit US$61.86 billion by the time it is complete in 2035. The second and third phases of the road network development programme for Morocco will see the construction of some 1,649km of highways.
