Severe damage has been caused to roads, highways and bridges in Germany due to the recent heavy flooding. Some repairs and maintenance have already been carried out to reopen key links. However, some of the more heavily damaged structures could take several months to be repaired. There are concerns that a number of road, highway or bridge links could take a number of years before they are repaired fully.

Germany’s Federal Ministry of Transport has released cost estimates of up to €700 million for the work needing to be carried out.
