Road construction, improvement and maintenance works will be carried out in Russia’s second city, St Petersburg. A budget of US$126.3 million has been set for the work. In addition, an interchange will be rebuilt at a cost of $42.1 million.

The repair and maintenance work forms part of a wider plan for Safe and Quality Roads, with 11% of the necessary funding being delivered by the Federal Government. However, the majority 89% of the funding will be provided by the regional budget.

Around 200km of roads will benefit from the work and the sections of road to be improved in St Petersburg will be revealed in the second quarter of 2022.

The interchange connecting the Kronshtadtskoye Highway and the Ring Road at Kronstadt will be improved. The upgrade work will boost capacity with the off-ramps being widened to four lanes.

During 2021 repair works were carried out at 68 key points on the road network in St Petersburg. The repairs were carried out to a total of 176km of road, with a  total cost of over $84 million. The plans call for 85% of the city’s roads to be in a suitable condition by 2024.
