Papua New Guinea is setting out a road development programme.
A new, long term road development programme is planned for Papua New Guinea. The works will be carried out over the coming two decades. A budget of US$5.66 billion has been set for the works by the Papua New Guinea Government.
New roads will be built and existing links will be improved and upgraded, while necessary maintenance work will also be carried out. A total of 16,200km of roads will be either built or improved.
High priority will be given to work on 4,200km of national roads. Around 9,000km of district and provincial roads will be improved, while 1,800km of new road connections will be built. In addition, a number of bridges will be improved or rebuilt.
The work will boost trade and transport in Papua New Guinea and help to develop the country's economy.
