Funding is being supplied for a Honduras bridge development project.
A new finance package will help pay for a key bridge connection in Honduras. The Honduran Government approached the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) for a loan to pay for the work.
The US$244 million loan will help pay for a 2km bridge to connect Puerto Cortes on the Honduras mainland with Amapala Island. This is intended to help improve transport to Amapala Island, which relies heavily on a ferry service at present. Amapala Island is a holiday destination and the aim is to help boost the tourist trade, as well as to develop other industries on the island and boost its economy.
The work forms part of a wider programme of development for the Gulf of Fonseca area in Honduras.
