Road construction projects are being planned in the Democratic Republic of the Congo .
A loan worth US$72 million from the African Development Bank (ADB) will help pay for works to the road linking capital Kinshasa with Kikwit. The N1 route needs to be repaired due to damage caused by flooding following heavy rains.
Meanwhile, there are issues over repairs to roads on the other side of the country. The authorities in South Kivu, which borders with Burundi and Rwanda in the east, are calling for audits of the funds being used for road repairs. The questions are targeted at works planned for road links to the borders. One road in particular, Boulevard Lumumba, was supposed to benefit from repairs works but these have still not been carried out.
