A funding package worth US$295 million is being awarded to Uganda from Saudi Arabia. The loan is being provided by the Islamic Development Bank (IDB).

Road construction and maintenance works will be a priority target of the funding package. Other infrastructure works will also benefit.

Uganda has been upgrading its road and highway network as part of a massive infrastructure development programme. Capital Kampala has also benefited from road improvements. This forms part of a wider plan across East Africa to improve transport, with national and international links having been upgraded. Uganda's links with neighbouring Kenya, Tanzania, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Rwanda have also benefited significantly, helping boost trade across the region
