Cambodia’s road network improvements are funded with assistance from China.
Many of the road and bridge improvements being carried out or completed across Cambodia have benefited from Chinese funding. A series of loans worth some US$3 billion in all have been supplied from various Chinese lenders and routed through the Chinese Government.
In all, around 3,000km of roads in Cambodia as well as eight bridges have been constructed with the assistance of Chinese financial backing. One of the biggest individual projects has been for the new expressway linking capital Phnom Penh with the coastal city of Sihanoukville, which is being constructed by China Road and Bridge Corp (CRBC). Plans are being drawn up for an expressway that will connect Phnom Penh to the border with Vietnam.
