XCMG’s flagship 700tonne class excavator utilises proven technology from the firm’s other machines
XCMG is now offering its 700tonne class hydraulic excavator to the extraction sector.


The machine is the largest hydraulic excavator currently built in China and is powered by twin diesels, rated at 1,270kW each. The machine is 23.5m long and its 5m wide bucket offers a capacity of 34m3 and can carry up to 50tonnes/pass. The excavator is able to deliver a digging force at the stick of 230tonnes and has been designed to work with 2490 XCMG’s 216tonne and 270tonne capacity haul trucks. It features a novel dual-power assembly coupling control system, a high pressure hydraulic system with intelligent monitoring and self-diagnostics technology. The dual-power hydraulic drive system is modular in design while the machine also benefits from an auto-oil supply, to lower maintenance needs. According to XCMG, the development of the excavator has resulted in 52 separate patents also.

This machine shares some design features with the firm’s own 280tonne class excavator, an electric version of which has been well-proven in a very tough application, operating at an altitude of 5,400m on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. The 280tonne machine has been working successfully in the operation, loading a fleet of XCMG haulers. This is in spite of the extreme cold experienced at the site in winter months, as well as the lower atmospheric pressures of its high altitude location.
