US$988 million Morocco motorway near completion

Work for Morocco’s new US$988 million motorway is close to completion. This route stretches 1,055km and improves transport for the south of the country.

Work has been completed between Guelmin and Dakhla in Western Sahara, while construction of the section connecting Guelmin and Tiznit should be finished by the end of 2024.

Meanwhile, traffic flow in Tangiers is expected to improve following the installation of new technology, in a move costing $13.4 million. The new traffic control technology will improve traffic in the city, reducing congestion.

Meanwhile, a funding package from the African Development Bank worth $668 million is being made available following discussions with the Morocco Government. This package will be split into four, paying for various projects. A key infrastructure project to benefit will be the 104km highway linking Guercif and Nador.
