Major new highway works are planned for Thailand. The project for a US$848 million highway running 30km between Kathu and Muang Mai will now be managed jointly by the Department of Highways (DH), Expressway Authority of Thailand (Exat) and the Department of Rural Roads (DRR). The route was originally intended to connect Muang Mai with Koh Kaeo, but is now being extended to Kathu.

Work is also underway on the 20km elevated route linking Ongkharak with Pathum Thani and this project is costing $1.07 billion. Meanwhile, an elevated route costing $1.2 billion and measuring 18km in length will link Srinakin Road and Suvarnabhumi Airport. In addition, new roads and bridges measuring a total of 72km will improve transport between Samut Sakhon and Samut Prakan.
