Myanmar road development project underway

A new highway project worth US$184 million has been awarded in Myanmar to a joint venture comprising Punj Lloyd and Varaha Infrastructure. The project will see the construction of an improved road link measuring 120km connecting Yagyi with Kalewa. The work is expected to take three years to complete and will include the construction of three large bridges as well as two small bridges.

Construction work is now underway for the No3 Thanlyin Bridge in Myanmar. The project is costing US$300 million with the work being carried out by a group of Japanese firms. Funding for the project has been provided by a loan facility from Japan. The new bridge will measures 1,928m in length and is being built 125m from the existing No1 Thanlyin Bridge. Work on a new road and bridge project is planned to start in Myanmar during 2019 and is expected to take until 2022 to complete. The construction of this new link will improve transport connections with neighbouring China. The US$100 million project will be carried out in Myanmar’s Shan State, lying on the country’s eastern border with China.
