A new highway project worth US$184 million has been awarded in Myanmar to a joint venture comprising Punj Lloyd and Varaha Infrastructure. The project will see the construction of an improved road link measuring 120km connecting Yagyi with Kalewa. The work is expected to take three years to complete and will include the construction of three large bridges as well as two small bridges. The joint venture partners are carrying out the project under the engineering procurement and construction model and will also maintain the link for a period of five years. Of particular note is that through an agreement between the Indian Government and the Myanmar Government, financing is being provided by India's Ministry of External Affairs, with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) managing the project.
