China's investment in landmark infrastructure projects continues with the announcement of plans for a 50km expressway as well as a bridge spanning the Pearl River. This new expressway and bridge connection will link Shenzhen, Zhongshan and Guangzhou. The project forms part of the Guangdong Five-Year Program (2011-2015) and is expected to cost US$4.56 billion. The bridge connect link Shenzhen and Zhongshan, shortening the journey between Hong Kong, Zhuhai and Guangzhou airports and Zhongshan to under an hour. It will also reduce journey times between Shenzhen airport and Zhongshan to around 30 minutes. However, as priority as been given to the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, the construction date for this new Pearl River project has still to be outlined.
