A landmark bridge project in China is now moving close to final completion. This will be the longest sea-crossing bridge in the world, with the main bridge section running for nearly 23km. The link runs from Lantau Island to Guangdong Province for a total of 55km in all and also includes a 6.7km stretch of tunnel. The bridge and tunnel highway connection links Hong Kong and Macao with Zhuhai on the Chinese mainland. Construction work on the project commenced in 2009 and around 400,000tonnes of steel has been used to build the highway connection. Once the 55km link is complete it will reduce journey times between Hong Kong, Macao and Zuhai to just 30 minutes.
