A series of major highway projects are now moving ahead in Indonesia. One of the projects is for part of the Trans-Java Toll Road. Work is now starting to build the route and this new 759km toll road will connect Surabaya and Jakarta. Construction is already underway on building the Bogor-Ciawi-Sukabumi Toll Road or Bocimi linking West Java's Ciawi with Cigombong.

Building work has started on the 57.5km Pejagan-Pemalang Toll Road in Central Java, which forms part of the Trans-Java Toll Road. And construction activity is also underway for the 51km Sragen-Ngawi Toll Road in Central Java's Sragen, as well as a stretch of the 90.4km Solo-Ngawi Toll Road. In 2019, building work is expected to start on the remaining sections of the Trans-Java Toll Road.

Meanwhile studies are being carried out for the $419.7 million toll road that will connect with Patimban Port in West Java. Funding for the 37.7km project is being provided partly by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The route will be constructed by a consortium that includes JSMR, Daya Mulia Turangga, Surya Semesta Internusa and Jasa Sarana.
