In Nigeria’s Niger State, a major road upgrade project is now underway. The road improvement scheme is for the second stage of the widening works on the Minna-Suleja route. Construction work is being carried out by contractor Salini Nigeria and is costing US$113.5 million. The project will see this important route being upgraded to dual carriageway status along its length, increasing capacity, reducing congestion and boosting safety for road users. Work is also being carried out to roads within Minna itself. As the state capital for Niger State, Minna is of local importance and its proximity to Nigeria’s capital Abuja means it is a key staging point for the north-west of the country, with onward routes to the country’s borders with neighbouring Niger and Benin.
