Construction work on the Semarang-Demak 1C toll road project worth US$146.6 million has been awarded in Indonesia. The work will be carried out jointly by an Indonesian firm, Adhi Karya Tbk (ADHI), in partnership with Chinese contractor Sinohydro Corporation.

The new road is being built on the Indonesian island of Java. The project is of note as part of the route will be constructed along a raised causeway that will also provide protection from the sea for the city of Semarang, reducing the risk of flooding.

The project forms part of Indonesia's programme of toll road development work, intended to improve connectivity and boost economic growth.
