Major road and highway development will be seen in India as the country boosts its network. Meanwhile plans are also moving ahead for a major new bridge project in India.
The highways development programme will see 15,000km of National Highways being built across India in the 2017/2018 period. This is a key increase from previous years. So far, 2,269km of the National Highways road construction links targeted for the 2017-2018 period have been built. During the 2016-2017 period, 8,231km of National Highways were constructed in India.
Construction work is now underway on a new bridge spanning the famous Ganga River. This 9.76km long bridge will connect Bidupur in Haijipur with Kacchi Dargarh in Patna. The project is costing close to US$776 million and is due for completion in 2020. The bridge will feature three traffic lanes in either direction and will sit on 67 supports in all.
