A proposed immersed tunnel project for Sao Paulo State in Brazil has moved one step closer to being built. Approval has been given for the plan by the Council of the Investment Partnership Programme (PPI).

The new immersed tunnel would improve transport to and from Brazil's key port of Santos and would connect with Guajara. Heavy trucks would be able to use the tunnel and the project would help reduce congestion in Santos, an important factor in Sao Paulo State.
