The work of Echo Barrier was highlighted at a prestigious Institute of Acoustics (IOA) sponsored awards ceremony held at the House of Commons. The company, which develops and supplies temporary acoustic barriers for use on major construction projects to reduce noise pollution, was highly commended for its Echo H1 barrier and range of products during the 2011 John Connell Awards.

New ownership offers greater overseas potential for Barrier Systems

Further development of SCT's wooden and steel barrier systems has led them to meet a wider array of applications. The company has had particular success with its wooden barrier range in areas of natural beauty and hopes to capitalise on this as the wider range comes to market.

Moves are being made to develop barrier protection for motorcyclists. Many public highway authorities take little note of motorcycle riders at present, considering them a small minority and assuming that any additional safety measures will be costly and provide little gain in saving lives. In spite of this narrow minded attitude, some manufacturers have recognised that niche opportunities exist to improve safety levels for powered two wheeler users through developing innovative new products. Barrier Systems is extending its line with the introduction of its new U-MAD trailer-mounted attenuator (TMA). This uses the proven U-MAD technology and is intended to make work zones safer for highway maintenance personnel. These TMA units can be used to protect errant motorists who collide with slow moving or stationary shadow vehicles, improving safety for the motorist and the support vehicle operator, as well as shielding highway workers.

US-based Ennis Traffic Safety Solutions, parent company of UK-based road safety products manufacturer Ennis Prismo, is merging with Flint Trading to create Ennis Flint. Steve Vetter has been named the new company's chief executive and Matt Soule as chief financial officer.
