Work is underway to redevelop Donington Park motor racing circuit in the UK in readiness for the 2010 British Formula 1 Grand Prix.

Portuguese contractor Mota-Engil Group has been awarded the construction of a 270km Douro Interior Highways project in the north-east of Portugal, one of the longest highway projects ever awarded in the country.

The A98 single-lane motorway in Germany is being extended by a second pair of lanes. Work began in 2007 and required building a second bridge at Rheinfelden in the south-west of the country, parallel to the existing bridge, and identical in design and construction.

Two heavy Atlas Copco hydraulic breakers have been used to demolish a bridge on the A40 autobahn at Junction 28 in Gelsenkirchen-Süd, Germany. The bridge was used to carry the four lanes of the A40 over the B277 main road. As the key route in the Ruhr district, the A40 is being widened to incorporate six lanes, so the old bridge needed to be demolished.

The Iowa Department of Transportation in the US has selected Peek's AxleLight non-intrusive laser axle sensors installed in a permanent site along Interstate 35/80 in Des Moines. This is the first time that the AxleLight sensors, normally designed as a temporary study tool, have been installed in permanent roadside cabinets. The new Sandvik DE150 is Sandvik's most powerful exploration drill rig for underground exploration, and a surface version is under development and will be ready for market in the fourth quarter of 2009. The DE150 (part of the expanded DE100 range) has a hydraulic feed cylinder designed to a push and pull capacity of 15tonnes (147 kN).
