Topcon has produced a new imaging station which, it claims, will dramatically increase productivity when used in two-man auto-tracking or single operator robotic modes. Using prism auto-tracking scanning interface technology the IS-3, when used with Topcon’s RC-4 remote control system, will track prisms up to 1,000m away.

Sokkia has combined its SRX robotic total station with a gyroscope which, the company says, makes it even better for tunnelling, pipeline work, mining and shipbuilding. The Gyro X Gyro Station now has auto-pointing capabilities and a newly equipped image sensor. It finds true north and determines the azimuth with 15" precision regardless of work site environment.

Dutch surveying company Geomaat says it is taking millimetre accurate measurements in record time to aid a range of highway design, construction and maintenance projects. Using the mobile laser mapping system StreetMapper, and specially developed point cloud software, Geomaat says it can calculate highly accurate cutting, milling and asphalt figures, create as built models and undertake change detection.

Taiwan-based Apus Molds and Plastics (AMP) says it has developed a ‘novel’ poly carbonate barrier system. Made from PC and PP materials, the barrier is said to be long lasting and corrosion resistant, as well as being lightweight and quick to install. Impact performance is also said to be good as the material helps absorb shock.

Dana Holding Corporation has started production of its Spicer TZL Series, a new line of powershift transmissions for premium front-end loaders manufactured in China. The Spicer TZL16 transmission has been engineered for 17tonne ZL50 front-end loaders, which account for about two-thirds of the front-end loaders manufactured in China.

Komatsu has begun taking orders for factory-fitted double auxiliary circuits for its MR-3 mini-excavators, which can be comfortably controlled by a double slider on the machine’s PPC joysticks. Higher performances and an improved oil ¬flow, with a perfect pipe routing and smooth fingertip controls, are said by Komatsu to be a few advantages of this new option. Asphalt Drum Mixers (ADM) says its SPL hot-mix asphalt plants are an affordable option for contractors with low production requirements. The SPL series is said to include all necessary components for drum-mixing asphalt production, yet can fit on a single trailer frame. The plants provide high reliability while producing asphalt at a very low cost per ton.

Asphalt Burner Services (ABS), a nationwide provider of asphalt servicing and spare part products, has fitted a Vulcan Burner at Cemex Shap, in Cumbria, North West England. ABS says Cemex has noted that fuel usage has reduced, emissions have lowered and overall plant performance has increased substantially. Excess air control, combustion chamber optimisation and air pressure compensation are said by ABS to be key features of the Vulcan range.

Diversified Products (DP) has launched two Pole Puller models, said by the firm to be giving electric utility crews a faster and safer method for pole removal. The XHD-60 pole puller delivers more than 54,432kgs of pulling force and can handle poles up to 66cms in diameter. The 680kg unit utilises two hydraulic cylinders, each featuring a cam action head with beveled teeth to effectively grip the pole. The tension fabric structures, situated near Markle and Westfield, provide each site with a salt storage capacity of 2,993tonnes — enough to cover several months of winter road maintenance.
