Yanmar’s industrial engines division used Conexpo to show off its latest compact diesel engine equipped with a diesel particulate filter (DPF). Offering a power rating of 53.7kW at 2500rpm, the 3.3litre 4TNV98CT combines common rail electronic injection and cooled exhaust gas recirculation with the DPF system.

Tweaks to Yanmar’s mini excavator range has seen the firm introduce a new 2.5tonne ViO model and offer an angle blade option on its larger 3.5tonne ViO35-6, to increase its versatility. Yanmar’s ViO25-6 is an all-new model aimed at landscape contractors and rental customers, defined by its 2.5tonne operating weight that makes the mini excavator trailer-friendly for transport, without needing a CDL or large goods vehicle driving licence, said the company.

Ausa’s newest and smallest telehandler, the T 144 H plus, was receiving a lot of attention on the manufacturer’s stand at Conexpo. “We’ve had a lot of interest, especially in this machine,” said Mark Benfield, Ausa’s area manager for USA and Canada. “Some people like it more than skid steers because you get more reach and more lift for the same size of the machine.

Track component supplier Berco has developed a track frame for larger capacity compact tracked loaders that uses a bogie system to suspend the bottom rollers. Initially targeting machines in the 4.3-5.2 tonne sector, with 84-100hp, the track frame has a five-roller design.

Phoenix Industries, which specialises in products made from recycled rubber tyres, unveiled a new type of rubber pellet at Conexpo called PelletPAVE Plus, designed to allow less virgin asphalt to be used when preparing a mix. “This new product decreases the amount of asphalt you need in your mix by up to 0.5%,” said Serji Amirkhanian, director of research and development for Phoenix Industries. Amirkhanian has been researching the use of recycled rubber in asphalt mixes for more than 25 years.

Sakai America unveiled three new machines at Conexpo: two compactors with Tier 4 Interim engines and a new trench roller. The 2m-wide SV540 vibratory drum roller has an ‘Eco’ mode, which marketing manager Josh Steele said could reduce fuel consumption by up to 20%. The new model also has a spacious cab, with new features including heating, air conditioning and an FM radio.

Three key highlights gracing the new materials testing machines on display at Conexpo 2014 from Gilson Company are: its Hamburg Immersion Wheel Tracker, a Superpave Gyratory Compactor and a new version of the company’s Rotary Sifters.
