Troxler has its Hamburg Wheel Tracker on show at Conexpo, a product which it acquired when the company purchased Precision Machine and Welding around 18 months ago. Since then, Troxler has made a few changes. The software has been updated to make it more user-friendly and the manufacturer has adapted the way in which the machine is put together.

American Augers and Trencor have come together under parent company The Charles Machine Works, to develop a four-model line of surface mining machines. Using an American Augers mining head, with a Trencor trencher chassis, the machines offer a cost-effective means of removing material without drilling and blasting. The machines offer cutting widths of 3.2-4.5m with maximum cutting depths of 0.91-1.1m.

Atlas has updated the cab on its 215LCsr short tail swing excavator. The 21.8tonne crawler gets a revised electrical system along with a new steering column and operator’s seat. A Linde LS hydraulic system provides improved control for the operator. The 215LCsr is available with an adjustable boom or a monobloc boom, while the overall track width is just 2.2m for ease of transportation. BOMAG is offering new soil compacting solutions for the 4-8tonne class with the BW177D-5 being the first of this improved range. Weighing in at 6.7tonnes, the machine has a 55.4kW diesel and Friedrich Knoche, a product manager for the soil compactors said, “These machines are totally new and they have Tier 4 Final engines. There are two versions, the DH with better gradeability and the D, which is the standard model.”

To say the GigapixelCam X10 is a high-powered camera is an understatement. The camera, unveiled by EarthCam.net at Conexpo 2014, is capable of taking 10 billion pixel, 360º panoramic images. “We help monitor, document and promote,” said Brian Cury, CEO and founder of the company. The monitoring comes in the form of live-streaming video that can bring the job site to a desktop. The documenting is achieved through archiving photos throughout the process, should a dispute surface.

Heating Design Equipment (HDE) was displaying updated versions of two of its successful products at Conexpo: the HDE 750 2TMT asphalt maintenance trailer and the HDE JMH 500-PA asphalt joint heater. The asphalt maintenance trailer heats up and softens an area of asphalt, allowing it to be reworked and repaired. According to HDE, the infrared heaters can soften the top 60mm of asphalt to the original mixing temperatures in between five and 10 minutes.

JCB Power Systems revealed its complete US EPA Tier 4 Final emissions solution at Conexpo for the Ecomax engine. Using highly efficient combustion technology, the 4.4litre and 4.8litre Ecomax engines meet the required standards without the use of a diesel particulate filter (DPF).

International construction equipment manufacturer Chicago Pneumatic has said that it is to introduce a new range of portable and stationary generators. Announced at Conexpo 2014, the range, being rolled out during the first half of the year, will complement Chicago Pneumatic’s existing portfolio of tools and equipment, and encompasses a wide range of options to meet the power needs of the construction industry across geographical markets. Bridgestone has launched three additional tyre lines, each with a specific duty cycle in mind. The DFAS range is initially available in a 17.5R25 size and is intended as an all-weather tyre for graders. The tyre has pyramid-shaped tread blocks with two lateral grooves to rapidly clear snow. As the tyre wears the blocks in effect get wider, providing continued grip in all conditions.

Chicago Pneumatic has launched a new complete line of compact tandem asphalt rollers and soil compactors to the North American marketplace. The introduction of ride-on rollers is said to offer a larger-scale complement to the line of Chicago Pneumatic light compaction equipment. The models being introduced in North America include articulated tandem asphalt rollers in both petrol and diesel models, as well as small vibratory rollers for soil compaction.

Volvo Construction Equipment’s new Tier 4 Final/Stage IV-compliant L250H wheeled loader has been designed to perform heavy tasks with better performance, safety and fuel economy levels using the manufacturer’s OptiShift technology. In North America the L250H is ideally suited to working with on-highway trucks, and the L250H will load a 22.7tonne tri-axle on-highway truck in just two passes. Gradall has taken the wraps off its largest wheeled excavator, the XL5300 III. The 23tonne machine has a reach of 10.3m and a maximum digging depth of 7.5m. Bucket breakout force is 113kN and the machine has a rated boom force of 111kN. Goodyear has developed the RL-4D tyre range in response to customer demand for a harsh floor tyre in underground mining. A hybrid mix of the GP4-D and the firm’s RL5K tyre, the RL-4D is suitable for articulated dump trucks and wheeled loaders. Initially the tyre has been launched in an 875/65R29 size, but the company could develop additional sizes if there is demand.
