Materials testing firm Matest has launched an asphalt splitter at bauma. The machine breaks up asphalt specimens so that the constituent parts can be tested, a task that is often carried out by hand. “The purpose of the machine is to make the operator’s life easier,” said area manager Massiono Martorini. The splitter should also lead to greater efficiency, as breaking specimens down will take less time, and allow laboratory technicians to do other things. Italian firm Outset has extended the functionality of its Lanx Evo on-board truck weighing system with the development of an app for the iOS platform. Called Lanx Evo, the app allows operators to use an iPhone to connect to Outset’s on-board truck scale, enabling the iOS device to show a continuous display of payload. Deutz will this year achieve its 500,000th engine sale to Atlas Copco, marking an impressive milestone in a business relationship stretching back 57 years. In addition to the main Atlas Copco brand, Deutz also supplies other well-known companies in the Group, such as Dynapac and Chicago Pneumatic in China. Virtually the entire Deutz product range is in use in Atlas Copco group machines.

Manitou’s skid steer loader, the V400, is already proving popular with US road contractors. Named ‘the King’ by the manufacturer, it is the largest skid steer loader available in the world. A robot on the bauma stand of Italian company Penta Automazioni Industriali has been demonstrating the precision laying of paving blocks. Penta’s custom-made handling technology enables a robot to read the size of each block, pick up individual pieces and position them to make up a panel.

By combining the transmission with a hybrid module, ZF said greater operating efficiencies were available from the integration of start/stop technology and energy recovery from regenerative braking. Potentially, the hybrid drive system has the ability to boost fuel efficiency by up to 25% in addition to the 20% higher operating efficiency already offered by the cPower transmission, said ZF.

Mantovanibenne has increased the cylinder size on its latest Eagle II range of shears and redesigned the tip with a replaceable blade that pierces the material before searing back towards the throat while the one jaw is scalloped to release cut material. On display at bauma was the SH550 Eagle II, which fits carriers in the 50-65tonne range (39-45tonne if boom-mounted) and has a maximum opening of 760mm. Wacker Neuson has added two compact telescopic handlers to its range – the TH412 and the TH625. The machines offer maximum heights of 4.31m and 5.73m respectively, with lift capacities of 1.2tonnes and 2.5tonnes. PERI says that with new VARIOKIT system components it is now possible to create a heavy-duty truss girder for bridge construction. A supplement to the VARIOKIT heavy-duty shoring tower launched at bauma 2010, PERI said that during the new truss girder solution’s development it took into account load-bearing capacity of the tower and the challenging requirements of daily construction work. Globally renowned Austrian formwork company Doka has almost tripled its sales revenue in the last 12 years and is aiming for greater success in 2013, according to Group chairman Josef Kurzmann. Kurzmann said the firm recorded sales revenue of €853million in 2012, compared to €326million in 2000. Additionally, the percentage of non-European sales revenue accrued by Doka had increased from 6% in 2000 to 42% in 2012.
