The German mining machinery market is at a record high, according to the German Engineering Federation, VDMA. Mining machinery manufacturers based in Germany hardly suffered from the financial crisis, said VDMA president Dr Thomas Lindner. Since 2007, their annual turnover has grown by about 13% on average. Leading Chinese construction equipment manufacturing firm XCMG has revealed plans to open a new research and development facility in the United States. Speaking at bauma 2013 Wang Yansong, the company’s vice president, said, “In the second half of this year we are planning to build a R&D centre in the United States. Manitou has been showing three new models in its mid-height range of telescopic trucks. The range has been simplified and the three models share the same chassis, boom, engine, transmission and hydraulics for ease of maintenance.

Two new all-terrain mast trucks have been introduced by Manitou. This Manitou range is now assembled at the company's Waco factory in Texas as the market is growing strongly in the USA but is mature in Europe. Shifting production reduces transport costs. Special characteristics claimed for the M30 and M50 include easy maintenance and use together with a high-quality mast that features tilting up to 15% and three lifting heights up to 7m.
