Kenya’s port of Mombasa will benefit from transport link improvements through a loan facility provided by Japan.

India’s Rajasthan State is benefiting from new financing for its Highways Investment Programme. A loan facility will pay for highway development work in the state. Approval has been given from the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

The Irish Government is boosting its budget for transport spending by a further €1 billion.

The widening of a 10km stretch of road connecting Aldinga with Seaford in South Australia is being proposed. The project is expected to cost US$231 million (A$305 million) and will see the Main South Rd from Aldinga to Seaford being doubled.

Construction equipment body CECE has met with senior figures within the EU Commission to help safeguard the competitiveness of the European industrial base. This is intended to help create jobs and to instil new sustainable economic growth in Europe. As a result, the European manufacturing industry is requesting a far thinking industrial policy strategy and action plan at EU level.

Two major highway projects are getting the go ahead in Thailand. The two highways are expected to cost US$4.18 billion in all.

The Czech government said that around 80km of highways out of 230km under construction will be finished this year. Completed work includes the upgraded sections of the D1 motorway.

The Hungarian government said that it intends to build a dual carriageway to connect the city of Gyor and the Slovakian town of Dunajska Streda.
