Turkish haulage operator ÇABA has been transporting huge armine absorber units at regular intervals from the Caspian Sea port of Turkmenbashi across the Karakum Desert in Turkmenistan to a flue gas desulphurisation plant in the town of Eloten.

The desert covers 70% of Turkmenistan, and plant operator Türkmengas is the largest gas supply company in Central Asia.

For the last 300km of the 1,300km journey, asphalt roads have been constructed to take the 600tonne load which is carried on InterCombi platform trailers with 24 axle lines from German company 2797 SCHEUERLE. An additional 12 axle lines InterCombi SL (split type) are laterally coupled. The combination, which is over 40m long, 7.5m wide and almost 7m high, is pulled and pushed by three 2796 Mercedes 8x4 2MB 3850 6x6 WSK truck tractors.

All bridges crossed on route have been fitted with special bridge crossing systems, and obstacles such as electricity pylons and road signs have to be continually removed and then re-positioned.
