Improvement works will be carried out to a section of Kenya’s key Old Mombasa Road in capital Nairobi. Safety improvements and maintenance work will be included in the work, as well as upgrades to drainage, pedestrian walkways, footbridges and to the carriageway. Facilities for bus rapid transport (BRT) links will also be constructed.
A budget of US$199 million has been set for the work, which is being planned by the Kenya National Highways Authority (Kenha). The work will see the road being improved to a comparable standard as the 27km Nairobi Expressway, which connects Jomo Kenyatta International Airport with Westlands.
The improvement works will start once repairs have been carried out to stretches of the road that were damaged during the Nairobi Expressway construction.
