Ghana is planning a major programme of rural road development. The work will ensure that Ghana’s key agricultural areas will feature better transport connections than at present.

The programme will include maintenance, surfacing and overall improvement works to existing unsurfaced roads. Once the programme is complete, 4,465km of road will have been improved. This will include work to 28 trunk roads and 258 link roads.

The work is expected to cost up to US$2.35 billion and the programme is being planned jointly by the Ministry of Food and Agriculture the Ghana Highway Authority (GHA) and the Department of Feeder Roads (DFR). The work will help boost access for the country’s agricultural sector with a benefit for Ghana’s economic development.
