A US$1.46 billion Philippines expressway project has been halted.
An expressway project worth US$1.46 billion for the Philippines has been halted. The project was for the 19.4km Pasig River Expressway (PAREx). The firm involved with the link, San Miguel (SMC), has halted the project due to pressures over environmental issues.
The expressway was to have featured three lanes in either direction and would have been elevated. However, there were concerns that because the route was to have been elevated, it would block sunlight while the construction activity would have impacted adversely on the river nearby.
