Rural roads in Bangladesh are to benefit from maintenance and upgrade work with the availability of a new finance package. The Asian Development Bank (ADB) is supplying an additional US$190 million for the country’s Rural Connectivity Improvement Project. This is the second package of funding from the ADB for rural road improvement works in Bangladesh.
Work is underway already on improving the rural road network in Bangladesh and this additional funding package will allow another 1,350km of roads to be upgraded. The improvements include asphalt surfacing, better drainage and new safety features such as the addition of guard rail and signage.
Road maintenance departments in local areas will receive funding with mobile equipment also being supplied.
