In Russia contracts have now been awarded for the building of the Moscow-Kazan highway project. This toll road project is an important one for Russia, as it will improve transport in a key economic area of the country. The design of the highway will allow for maximum speeds of up to 130km/h. The construction of the highway will face a number of challenges along the 729km route.

The project has been split into seven separate stretches. Stroytransgaz is to build the section in Moscow Region and Vladimir Region in a deal worth close to US$796 million. Regional Construction Company has the $315.3 million package to build a section in Vladimir Region, while VAD has the $893.2 package for a section in Vladimir Region. Avtoban has a $1.5 billion contract for a stretch in Vladimir Region and Nizhny Novgorod Region. Chinese firm CRCC has the contract for an $875.2 million section in Nizhny Novgorod Region. Avtoban will also build a stretch in Nizhny Novgorod Region and the Chuvash Republic worth just over $1 billion. Transstroymekhanizatsia will build a section in the Tartastan Republic worth $1.85 billion.
