Mexico boosting transport infrastructure in Quintana Roo

Mexico’s Quintana Roo State is to benefit from major expansion works to its transport infrastructure. The series of road projects planned will help to further deveop the tourist trade in the area, with the work costing US$905.45 million in all. The road that links Tulum with Bacalar will be upgraded at a cost of $91.61 million, while the road connecting Cancun with Tulum is to be upgraded at a cost of $49.73 million. A bypass around Puerto Morelos is expected to cost $53.44 million.

Three new bridges will also be constructed, with the largest of these projects to span the Nichupte Lagoon at a cost of $203.59 million. Another bridge located nearby will link the Chacmuchuch Peninsula with Ciudad Mujeres at a cost of $50.9 million. The third bridge is to provide a connection from Isla Blanca to the mainland and is expected to cost $18.32 million.

In all 12 transport infrastructure projects will be carried out under the umbrella of the National Development Plan in Quintana Roo State during the 2019-2024 period, with the other works including improvements to a number of rail links.
