Financing worth US$225 million from the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB) will help pay for work in Costa Rica for National Route 35. The finance package is coming in the shape of a 25-year loan.
National Route 35 provides an important connection with neighbouring Nicaragua to the north and improving the road connection will help boost trade and transport between the two countries. The road is notable in that it features an almost straight alignment for much of its existing length and is located in Alajuela Province and runs between San Carlos and Los Chiles, on the border with Nicaragua. An additional section is being built for National Route 35 to connect with the capital, San Jose, with is stretch intended to be ready for traffic in 2025.
