A road rebuild project worth US$1.6 billion is planned for the highway linking Nigeria’s capital, Abuja, with the northern cities of Kano and Kaduna. The budget has been set by Nigeria’s Federal Government.

The work should be carried out by Julius Berger Nigeria. The firm is also expected to carry out work on the road connecting Bonny with Bodo in Rivers State in South Eastern Nigeria, with this budgeted at $175.4 million.

The contractor has to complete the work in 14 months but if the company opts not to accept the terms, the package of works will be cancelled and awarded to a different firm.

In addition, a further $794.4 million has been budgeted for maintenance and upgrade works to other stretches of the highway linking Abuja, Kano and Kaduna.
