Caterpillar opens new Chinese facilities and celebrates 20th anniversary

Caterpillar’s Chinese excavator facility in Xuzhou, China has celebrated its 20th anniversary since its opening. The Caterpillar (Xuzhou) facility was the firm’s first hydraulic excavator manufacturing factory in China and the company has now extended its capabilities by opening the additional Caterpillar Chassis (Xuzhou) plant. 178 Caterpillar’s Chinese excavator facility in Xuzhou, China has celebrated its 20th anniversary since its opening. The Caterpillar (Xuzhou) facility was the firm’s first hydraulic excavator manufacturing factory in China and the company has now extended its capabilities by opening the additional Caterpillar Chassis (Xuzhou) plant. The opening was celebrated in an event attended by Caterpillar’s key executives. Following a series of investments, Caterpillar (Xuzhou) has now become the world's largest excavator factory. The facility now builds 20-30% of the firm’s total worldwide excavator production.   

The large hydraulic excavator factory and chassis parts and crawler assembly factory are located in the new factory area in Xuzhou. Work to set up the extended manufacturing facilities was announced in 2011 and 2012. This expands Caterpillar’s products and services support in China. The large hydraulic excavator factory will be put into production in April 2014. The chassis factory, which is next to the large hydraulic excavator factory, will provide chassis products for Xuzhou factory to improve the efficiency of logistics and inventory.
