US$177mn to build Bolivia’s Caracollo-Confital road, vice-president states

Bolivia is looking to source funding for two major highway projects from China. This development could follow discussions between Bolivia's vice-president Alvaro Garcia Linera and Chinese funding bodies being held during his trip to China. The highways in focus are the links from Porvenir to Chive and from Chive to Ixiamas. The 151km Porvenir to Chive highway is expected to cost around US$385 million to construct. Paraguay’s Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) is this year said to be planning to invest US$500 million in the South American country’s roads. The figure is said to be part of a proposed infrastructure investment of $7.66 billion for the period 2013-2016. A project to improve Bolivia’s existing 77.8km road between San Ignacio de Moxos and Trinidad will cost US$129.3 million, the government has announced. The project includes a 1.7km bridge over Mamore river. The first areas of work will involve the road between San Ignacio de Moxos and Puerto Ganadero.
